I got the writing itch back in 1974, when I found out I was going to be a father.
While Laura’s mom was busy being pregnant, I decided that I should write down my experiences from the Vietnam War in case anything would ever happen to me and I wouldn’t be able to talk with her about my military service.
Relying on the letters and pictures I sent to my folks, I began the arduous task of telling the story of nearly two years of my life; years spent away from home and family.
Though my ‘war’ experiences were minimal, I felt there was a story to be told and after months of writing and rewriting, I had about a 40,000 personal experience book.
To my chagrin, 23 publishers rejected my work and I was depressed. Perhaps I wasn’t an author at all, even though I read voraciously. I had never been much of a reader prior to my military service, but then I really enjoyed sitting down with a good book, mainly fiction, and mainly novels about war.
In 1990, I became involved with Vietnam veterans’ groups and many vets spoke to me at length about their part in America’s longest war. Some of the stories were gruesome, but since the vet felt better after talking about his or her experience, I shouldered the burden.
Near the end of the century, I decided to try to put all those experiences, along with my few, into a fictional military police novel. Many rewrites and nearly 144,000 words later, I had my first book, 95 Bravo, published as an e-Book bywww.writers-exchange.com in 2004.
The writing bug really hit me after Bravo and I wanted to have some fun and write a vampire novel. Requiem For A Vampire was released by www.mundania.comon September 7th, 2007 as both an e-Book and paperback.
Currently I am working on a sequel to RFAV, tentatively titled A New Breed. Yeah, you guessed it; a new type of vampire, never before seen.
I am also working on a number of short stories, a time travel novel, and another novel about the Vietnam War.
I hope you enjoy reading my works and I would love to hear from you.
